As I previously mentioned, there are several folks in my church with Facebook accounts. Along with the obligatory IQ and personality trait requests, we have also both joined and created our own Facebook Groups.  We have managed to get members from outside of the church and even the state.  Now, it’s true that these people probably know someone in the church, or were once members.  But, it still serves to illustrate the possible connections we could make.  I, for one, post items from the church calendar to my Facebook account.

Why?

Simple.

It let’s my friends know about opportunities to come and get to know us better.  If anyone asks, I can tell them about the church and, perhaps, even get them to attend.

And yes, we do have a link to the church and Brotherhood of St. Andrew Facebook Group on our home page.

[Update] It has been several weeks since we started the Facebook experiment and I can say it has been an unqualified success. Not only have we managed to form stronger bonds within the church, but we also renewed relationships with former members or those who visit throughout the year. Given the fact this “ministry” is done by the laity and not our priest, I think it speaks volumes about the possibility of evangelism via the Internet. While we still need personal communication with one another, this serves to provide much needed contact during the week.
