Sports Illustrated HTML5 is Impressive

May 20, 2010, by esilvas No comments yet

This is truly amazing. If I were Apple, I would be both proud and worried. Proud that my support of HTML5 is taking off quickly. Worried about iAds. The ads in this app look great and most advertising shops should be able to do it themselves without paying Apple.

Bravo Sports Illustrated, bravo!

Pubit! from Barnes & Noble

May 19, 2010, by esilvas No comments yet

It appears as though Barnes & Noble is getting into the self-publishing business with their Pubit! product. Coming this summer (2010), they will be offering a service to help you create an electronic format of your book. In addition, they will help get it distributed to several platforms, including the iPhone OS and their Nook product. It looks promising for all those future novelists, my wife included.

Google Chrome and the App Store

May 19, 2010, by esilvas No comments yet

It came as no surprise to me that Google announced to day a new app store for its Chrome OS. Why? Well, because:

  1. Apple has proven the app store concept to be viable and profitable.
  2. How else will you make use of an operating system that is web based with little/no local storage available?

Even more, the Chrome app store was able to show off some impressive apps, including one from Sports Illustrated. As an Apple fan, it’s no skin off my nose when good competition forces Apple to continue innovating. And, when Apple makes a misstep, these competitors are free to offer a good/service that I want at a price I accept.

Congratulations Google, you have officially peaked my interest.
