Square mobile payment system goes live on iPhone, iPad, and Android: I have come across the Square Payment System previously and am duly impressed. The reason is simple – you can take payments anywhere with an iPhone, iPad or Android device. Given their relative ubiquity in church these days, you can always have a way to accept payments.

Pay for tickets at the annual church festival? Check.

Pay for items at the annual church garage sale? Check.

Pay for pumpkins at the annual pumpkin patch? Check.

Pay for items at the weekly church fundraiser, e.g. figurines, cake, bible covers? Check.

For just about any event or exchange of money, you can use this system. The account is free. You receive a small card reader that plug into your device earphone plug. After activating the service and setting it up on your device (they provide the app), you can begin taking payments. The only drawback I see is that the card reader is linked to one device, so it would likely be owned by a parishioner. You could use a church owned device to around this problem. Great excuse to by an iPad!
